IN SUMMARY: THERE ARE TWO COMPONENTS OF CONCUSSUON INJURIES.

The soft tissue injury of the brain; the metabolic component of concussions, the widely recognized and treatment module of neurology.

b. Fractures of the bone supporting the base of the brain in the area of the jaw joint space; the structural component of concussions. The fractures of the structural component of concussions can now be identified by the use of the new digital imaging and cone beam technology.

In the multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of concussions, we can no longer ignore the possibility of the fracture to the thin bones supporting the base of the brain in the jaw joint space. This structural component of concussion injury must be evaluated and identified in the early treatment protocol of concussions.
